Neston Conservatives have reacted with disappointment to the proposals for the Mersey Tunnel fee in 2019-20.
Proposals, which will be considered by the Transport Committee of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority next week, will see the Fast Tag charge for residents of the Liverpool City Region fall to £1, but the charge for everyone else, including tunnel-users from Neston, rise to £1.80.
Cllr Nigel Jones, who represents Little Neston & Burton, responded by launching a petition and saying:
"Neston is right on the border of the Liverpool City Region and scores of people from our town use the Mersey tunnels every day. That's why I'm calling on the Liverpool City Region to offer local residents the same benefits as those on the Wirral.
"Those of us in Neston, Little Neston, Burton and the surrounding area already get the short straw with public transport and whether travelling for work or visiting the world-class medical facilities at Walton and Broadgreen, we often have no option but to drive. At their meeting next week, the Transport Committee should find a solution that treats residents in Neston fairly and doesn't punish us for using the tunnels."
