I’m sure many of you will be familiar with this path which runs from Well Lane down to the marshes – and therefore I’m sure that you will also share my frustration at it having been flooded since Christmas.
The drains located under the railway bridge have become blocked in some way rendering the path completely impassable – really annoying if you’re on a walk in the area! Since the issue was reported to me I have been in regular contact with the appropriate officers at the Council – and indeed we arranged to have the flood removed some three weeks ago – only for it to reflood overnight!
We have been in touch with Network Rail who is responsible for the bridge, and Welsh Water who clearly have drains locally – to ask them to investigate the problem. I have also now had meetings with representatives of both in an effort to secure the area and to speed up a resolution to the problem.
I would hope that the issue will now be resolved shortly – but if you would like me to update you on progress, please don’t hesitate to get in touch – [email protected] or 07742 270 298.
However, whilst the flooding is extremely annoying to us all, my main concern right now is the safety of everyone in the area.
I have received a number of reports of pedestrians scaling the railway embankment and crossing the tracks to avoid the flood and continue on their way. To address this, we have asked Network Rail to secure the fencing and they have visited twice in the last four days to do this. It might very well be, that those running across the tracks are not from round here and are unfamiliar with the area but clearly there are inherent dangers in crossing railway lines (and it is illegal) and I would hope that people will mind their own safety and not undertake such a risky proposition!
I am very hopeful that we will have this matter resolved shortly, in the meantime please go safely.
Best wishes,
Nigel
