Residents have told Luke Sharples, your candidate for Whitby Park, about their frustration at the Council’s failure to maintain green spaces. Too many areas in the ward have been neglected, with some becoming dumping grounds for litter.
For example on Overpool Road hedges have been left to grow, sometimes blocking road crossings. Thorns from the bushes have grown out towards the pavement, making it difficult for pedestrians with prams and dogs to pass.
But Luke isn’t one to wait for others to act. He has been working with local residents to persuade the Council to act and, when they don’t, has taken action himself on issues like litter.
Luke said: “Keeping our community safe and tidy is a basic duty of the Council, but we’re being let down. That has to change.”
